Esther Sorgenfrei, MSc, earned her master’s degree in psychology with a specialization in cognitive psychology and clinical psychology from Copenhagen University in 2004. Her thesis was on psycho-biological interpersonal emotion- and self-regulation in infancy and therapy.

Esther is an experienced clinician with thorough training and expertise within the fields of clinical psychology, psychiatry and health psychology. Throughout her career, she has been involved in numerous research projects, both in designing/developing and implementing evidence-based interventions.

Esther is a certified mindfulness-based stress reduction teacher from Center for Mindfulness, Århus University/Brown University and a certified Iyengar yoga teacher from B.K.S. Iyengar Yoga Center, Copenhagen - a mind-body intervention researcher at heart for 20 years+

Based on her many years of experience as a licensed clinical psychologist and practical in-depth work with patients suffering from fibromyalgia and long-term stress, she is in the process of preparing her PhD project “Is Exhaustion Disorder a helpful concept to illuminate Fibromyalgia as a stress-related disorder? An exploration of stress and dyscognition in Fibromyalgia”.

Esther’s project will examine the neurobiological underpinnings and psychological symptoms related to the pervasive exhaustion, chronic stress and dyscognition in patients suffering from fibromyalgia. It will consist of a systematic review and meta-analysis, a cross-sectional study on data from the Danpain Biobank, and a Randomized Controlled trial on mindfulness based stress reduction (MBSR) vs. yoga
